Position Overview:
The Laboratory Operations Manager is tasked with overseeing specific aspects of laboratory functions or shifts, which may encompass:
- Workflow management and quality control processes.
- Drafting and reviewing operational procedures.
- Engaging in performance improvement initiatives.
- Training new staff members.
- Advanced problem-solving for clients and colleagues.
- Maintenance and upgrades of laboratory equipment and computer systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop staff schedules and manage workflow assignments as necessary.
- Oversee quality assessment and provide technical guidance.
- Address problem-solving needs, conduct interviews, and contribute to staff performance evaluations.
- Facilitate training and competency assessments for laboratory personnel.
- Manage hiring, coaching, and termination processes with minimal oversight from leadership.
- Assist in the development of Standard Operating Procedures and document management.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as chemical, biological, or clinical laboratory science or medical technology.
- Minimum of three years of experience in a clinical laboratory setting.
- In states requiring licensure, possess Laboratory Supervisor Level Licensure in the appropriate specialty for the department or location. In non-licensure states, a national certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist or Medical Technologist (e.g., ASCP, AAB, AMT) is required unless otherwise exempted by state regulations.
