Patient Observer

Job Summary:
U Mass Memorial Health is seeking a Patient Observer to join our Emergency Department team. As a Patient Observer, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety and well-being of our patients. This is a per diem opportunity, allowing you to choose your schedule and work at your own pace.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain good human relations skills, introducing yourself to patients and engaging in eye contact.
- Consistently observe for suicidal and/or violent behavior, staying in close proximity to patients and keeping them in your visual field at all times.
- Monitor visitors to ensure no unsafe materials are shared with patients.
- Maintain 15-minute checks with documentation, unless otherwise directed.
- Follow the directions of the nurse in charge and transport patients as needed.
Requirements:
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- CPR Certification within 6 months of hire.
Physical Demands:
This role requires standing, walking, and sitting for extended periods. You will also be required to use your hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, and to push or pull objects weighing up to 10 pounds.
Environmental Conditions:
You will be working in a fast-paced environment with exposure to infectious diseases and physical/verbal abusiveness. You may also be required to work rotating shifts and wear personal protective equipment (PPE) as needed.
