Job Summary

This is a continuous filing exam. The Sacramento County CA is seeking a qualified individual to fill the position of Behavioral Health Peer Specialist. The selected candidate will provide peer support to consumers of behavioral health services and their families.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide emotional support and share recovery stories with consumers of behavioral health services and their families.
  • Identify wellness goals and develop strategies to achieve them.
  • Work under general supervision to provide peer support services.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with clients, co-workers, and other agencies.
  • Communicate effectively with consumers, families, and treatment teams.
Requirements
  • Currently or previously a consumer of behavioral health services, or a parent or family member/caregiver of a behavioral health consumer.
  • Ability to maintain client confidentiality and compose accurate records of services provided.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet required timelines for referrals and coordination of care.
  • Valid California Driver License, Class C or higher, required at the time of appointment.
  • Ability to complete Federal or State required training and/or certification upon written notice from the appointing authority.
Working Conditions
  • Exposure to emotionally disturbed or mentally ill persons and/or confrontational interpersonal situations.
  • Work in high-crime areas of the community.
  • Work during non-routine hours, including evenings, holidays, and weekends.
  • Work outside in all types of climatic conditions.
Probationary Period

The probationary period for this classification is six (6) months.
