Position Overview
At Houston Methodist, the Clinical Laboratory Scientist role is pivotal in executing both standard and intricate analyses, requiring a comprehensive understanding of laboratory methodologies, principles, and the equipment involved.

Key Responsibilities
This position demands sound judgment and critical thinking skills to effectively address issues related to the daily technical operations of the laboratory.

The Clinical Laboratory Scientist is also tasked with ensuring that specimens are received and processed promptly, aiming to deliver high-quality laboratory results efficiently and cost-effectively.

Essential Functions
People Functions: Fosters a supportive work atmosphere and contributes to a collaborative, team-oriented environment that encourages mutual assistance to achieve optimal departmental outcomes.

Engages with all members of the patient care team by actively sharing and reporting relevant patient care information and data comprehensively.

Instructs students, new staff, and others as designated by the Manager.
Participates in laboratory and organization-wide initiatives.

Service Functions: Conducts qualitative and quantitative tests and examinations utilizing various analyzers and/or manual techniques.
Prioritizes workload effectively and organizes tasks efficiently. Maximizes available work time by assisting colleagues and undertaking additional responsibilities.
Meets turnaround time expectations as established by management.

Quality and Safety Functions: Demonstrates proficiency in the six elements of competency for test systems utilized to produce patient test results in all assigned areas.

Identifies, investigates, and assists in resolving test discrepancies. When challenges arise, takes appropriate measures to investigate and address issues, notifying management and the medical director for follow-up.

Conducts instrument calibrations, validations, quality control testing, maintenance, and functionality checks.

Financial Functions: Adjusts work schedule to meet departmental and organizational needs. Utilizes the time recording system appropriately.
Employs resources judiciously; avoids waste of supplies. Replenishes section inventory levels as necessary.

Growth and Innovation Functions: Actively seeks opportunities to enhance knowledge beyond baseline competencies with a focus on continuous professional development.
Reviews and applies Standard Operating Procedures, offering suggestions for enhancements.

Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree.
Experience: One year of work or training experience in a hospital laboratory is preferred.
