Job Summary

Quest Diagnostics is seeking a highly skilled Lab Supervisor to oversee the activities of our laboratory department. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for planning, organizing, and directing the work of our section to maximize employee, equipment, and material utilization within budgetary constraints.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee the activities of the department, distribute/assign work, determine priorities, and schedule non-routine procedures.
  • Perform supervisory functions for assigned staff, including interviewing, hiring, training, and providing staff development through performance evaluation and corrective counseling.
  • Perform advanced/specialized tests and other related laboratory techniques, including duplicating work to confirm test results.
  • Check and approve all specialized and problem reports for accuracy.
  • Initiate quality-control measures and monitor the quality of work for adherence to laboratory standards.
  • Perform duties of a technologist as necessitated by absence or peak workload.
  • Complete special projects as requested, including surveys, statistical reports, studies, and research.
  • Maintain laboratory areas and equipment in a safe, functional, and sanitary condition.
  • Complete training and competency checklists as appropriate.
  • Adhere to all established CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and laboratory safety requirements.
  • Required to use personal protective equipment, engineering controls, and/or work practice controls as directed by management.
  • Answer questions from clients or other lab personnel, if applicable.
  • Participate in government or regulatory agency inspections, if needed.

Requirements
  • Four to six years of full-time experience as a medical technologist or equivalent in a clinical laboratory.
  • Previous supervisory experience is preferred.
  • Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time.
  • Manual dexterity to use a wide variety of manual and automated pipettes and laboratory instruments and apparatuses.

  • Comprehensive theoretical and operational job knowledge in designated specialty.
  • Knowledge of organizational/departmental policies and procedures.
  • Proven leadership and problem-solving skills.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to work independently and establish work priorities.
  • Interpersonal and communication skills necessary to deal courteously and effectively with employees, co-workers, and clients.
  • Ability to deal with client information in a confidential manner.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook) and Laboratory Information Systems.
