Medical Laboratory Technician

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Laboratory Technician to join our team at Rivers Edge Hospital. As a Medical Laboratory Technician, you will play a critical role in providing timely and accurate test results for healthcare providers to diagnose and treat patients.
Responsibilities:
Perform diagnostic laboratory procedures, including waived, moderate, and high complexity tests, as authorized by the Lab Manager.
Participate in our Laboratory's Quality Assurance Plan and adhere to quality control policies and procedures.
Maintain a high level of customer satisfaction by practicing Rivers Edge Hospital's Standards of Behavior.
Understand the clinical laboratory's role in servicing patients and demonstrate initiative and cooperation to maintain workflow.
Participate in teamwork, communicate effectively with colleagues and supervisors, and wear a Vocera device for effective communication.
Recognize testing and lab priorities and act accordingly, exercising good judgment in non-routine situations.
Communicate test results, normal ranges, and specimen requirements, and answer inquiries about test results, methods, specificity, sensitivity, and factors influencing test results.
Seek assistance or clarification when needed, accept constructive criticism, and adhere to federal and state laws, regulations, and guidelines.
Adapt to changes in practice, accept and implement approved changes, and learn new tasks.
Take responsibility for one's own career development, seeking continuing education and managing stress and resolving conflicts.
Perform EKGs, including EKG Rhythm Strip-Lead II, right-sided EKGs, and pediatric EKGs.
Collect adequate specimens for laboratory testing via venipuncture, capillary collection, and arterial collection.
Participate in proficiency testing programs and document quality control activities, instrument calibrations, and maintenance.
Follow established policies and procedures for test systems not within acceptable performance levels.
Identify problems affecting test performance or reporting and correct the issue or notify the Lab Manager or Technical Supervisor.
Document corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from performance specifications.
Possess a working knowledge of reagent stability and storage and adhere to Patient Bill of Rights and hospital policies.
Be knowledgeable in and follow facility policies and procedures, including Infection Control, Safety, Quality Assurance, and Lab's Chemical Hygiene Program.
Be flexible with sharing scheduled weekends, holidays, evening shifts, and overnight scheduled shifts.
Be willing to serve on facility committees and participate in CQI and other lab projects.
Be willing to share training duties for new employees and MLT/MLS students with other Lab personnel.
Be trained and certified to collect Urine Drug Screens for DOT and Non-DOT employees.
Requirements:
Have earned an Associate Degree as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) from an accredited institution and be ASCP Certified or equivalent.
Be certified with one of the following: ASCP, HEW, HHS, ASMT.
Be able to travel to other work sites as needed with own transportation.
Be certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) or will be certified within six months of hire through the American Heart Association.
