CHIEF MEDICAL OFFICER POSITION SUMMARY

The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) is a licensed Physician responsible for providing strategic guidance, leadership, and oversight of all facets of medical care within correctional facilities. This role encompasses authorization of medical services, consultation for clinical operations, and overall clinical direction. The CMO ensures the clinical quality and integrity of patient care, overseeing utilization management, quality assurance, credentialing, and the development of best practice guidelines.

CHIEF MEDICAL OFFICER MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Current unrestricted medical license in the State of Michigan
  • Board Certification is mandatory
  • Valid unrestricted DEA License
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
  • Preferred: Master's degree in Business Administration (MBA), Public Health (MPH), Healthcare Administration (MHCA), or related field
  • Knowledge of managed healthcare systems, quality assurance, and risk management
  • Experience in launching and managing innovative healthcare programs
  • Proficient in collaborating with IT teams for practice management and EHR software
  • Demonstrated leadership, team management, and interpersonal skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and internet applications
  • Ability to work collaboratively and harmoniously with diverse personnel
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to engage tactfully with various stakeholders

CHIEF MEDICAL OFFICER ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Consult with community medical providers to address service delivery challenges
  • Supervise clinical services provided by healthcare staff
  • Ensure availability of on-call medical services
  • Review and approve clinical protocols and emergency plans annually
  • Manage referrals to external healthcare facilities for quality and continuity of care
  • Support compliance for Physician Assistants and Nurse Practitioners
  • Serve as a resource for all facility medical staff
  • Assist in the recruitment and evaluation of healthcare providers
  • Participate in training and educational initiatives
  • Represent the healthcare program in community discussions as needed
  • Attend required medical and clinical meetings
  • Document all patient interactions in medical records accurately
  • Ensure compliance with therapeutic regimens and formulary guidelines
  • Provide emergency care and respond effectively in urgent situations
  • Adhere to evidence-based medical standards and practices
