Job Summary

Naper Settlement is seeking a highly skilled Financial Specialist I to join our team. As a key member of our finance department, you will be responsible for processing and recording financial transactions, generating financial statements, and assisting in the budget process.

Key Responsibilities

1. Process and record financial transactions, including deposits, check and procurement transactions, and journal entries.

2. Maintain the general ledger, import and review transactions from supporting applications, and record journal entries for remaining transactions.

3. Monitor and reconcile bank and investment accounts, ensuring accurate and timely processing.

4. Prepare monthly financial statements for Naper Settlement, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.

5. Assist in the budget process, including preparing and analyzing financial reports and forecasts.

6. Ensure compliance with financial regulations and laws, including tax requirements and financial reporting.

7. Collaborate with other departments to ensure accurate and timely financial information.

8. Develop and maintain financial policies and procedures to ensure efficient and effective financial operations.

Requirements

Associate degree in accounting or business, or equivalent experience.

1-3 years of experience in a related field, preferably in financial operations, compliance, or reporting.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and accuracy.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to work effectively with staff, volunteers, and vendors.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and deadlines.

Proficiency in financial software and systems, including general ledger, accounts payable, and financial reporting tools.

Knowledge of financial regulations and laws, including tax requirements and financial reporting.

Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive financial information.

Physical demands of the job include sitting, standing, and walking for extended periods, with occasional lifting and carrying of financial documents and equipment.

Work environment is fast-paced and dynamic, with frequent deadlines and changing priorities.

Ability to work in a team environment, with flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and deadlines.

Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive financial information.
