Our client is a prominent North American wood products firm, specializing in the production of southern yellow pine lumber and wood chips throughout the Southern US and Western Canada. They hold the title of the largest lumber producer in North America and the foremost softwood lumber producer worldwide.

The primary objectives for this role involve leveraging your technical expertise to deliver high-quality results in income tax provision, compliance, and various planning initiatives while collaborating closely with the US Tax Manager. We seek an individual capable of comprehending and enhancing tax accounting methodologies, coordinating compliance activities with our external tax preparer, and effectively identifying tax-saving strategies.
This position will predominantly focus on US income tax, although it is part of a Canadian-based global operation that may require occasional collaboration with our Canadian tax team. Flexibility to engage in other business areas, such as indirect tax or finance functions, utilizing your analytical and technological skills will add further value to this role.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual income tax provisions
- Conduct monthly balance sheet reconciliations for income tax-related accounts
- Generate supporting documentation for financial statements as needed
- Oversee the income tax third-party preparer for estimated payments, extension filings, and tax return submissions
- Compile necessary financial data and create working papers to support tax computations
- Develop analytical procedures to enhance analysis for the finance team
- Maintain technical expertise through research platforms and training seminars, sharing knowledge with key team members
- Explore tax savings and refund opportunities both internally and with external consultants
- Manage income tax audits as they arise
- Address income tax and business notices as they occur
- Assist in ensuring compliance with internal controls, policies, and procedures
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Accounting, Finance, or Business
- Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in US income tax compliance and provision
- Proficient in researching and interpreting tax guidance using CCH/RIA knowledge platforms
- Master’s degree in Accountancy or Taxation
- CPA certification is a plus
- Experience in direct or indirect tax
- Familiarity with income tax reporting software, including OneSource/Corp Tax
