Key Responsibilities
The Environmental Specialist will primarily oversee the Waste Reduction and Recycling Program, aiming to foster a culture of sustainability across the campus. Responsibilities include:
- Leading efforts to achieve zero waste goals by engaging with faculty, staff, and students.
- Implementing and managing existing programs such as Bee Campus, Tree Campus, and invasive species management.
- Conducting data collection, analysis, and reporting related to environmental initiatives.
- Collaborating with the Design and Construction Department to ensure environmentally responsible practices during construction projects.
Department Information
This position falls under the Budget and Finance division, specifically within Campus Operations, and is a full-time role requiring a commitment of 12 months per year.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as agriculture, biology, engineering, environmental science, or natural resources, along with at least one year of applicable experience. Preferred qualifications include:
- Experience in environmental sustainability and waste management.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with GIS mapping software.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and collaborate effectively with diverse groups.
Work Schedule
The typical work hours are Monday through Friday, with occasional evening and weekend commitments as necessary to fulfill departmental needs.
