Job Summary

Maintains all occupational safety, health, and environmental recordkeeping, as well as records for required training and inspection, and conducts semi-annual and annual re-training of all employees. Leads the planning and implementation of all occupational safety, health, and environmental and sustainability programs to assure the highest possible degree of safety for employees. Ensures compliance with all current applicable federal and state health, safety, and environmental laws, regulations, and standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as subject matter expert to Operation teams and remain up to date on changes within the regulatory environment.
  • Ensure compliance with all OSHA required written plans including training, support documents, auditing programs, and updates as required.
  • Identify and evaluate hazardous conditions and practices in the workplace. Survey to identify and evaluate occupational health, safety, and environmental conditions. Conduct and coordinate on-site inspections to audit physical conditions and safe work practices. Provide advice and counsel concerning all city, state, and federal compliance regulations.
  • Develop controls for identified hazards. Coordinate the implementation of controls from results of hazard analysis. Measure and evaluate the effectiveness of the hazard control system, policies, and procedures and recommend changes that reflect improved opportunities to eliminate workplace accidents and injuries. Review all injury/ illness and non-injury incident investigation reports and follow-up as necessary.
  • Direct or assist in the development of specialized education and training materials. Conduct specialized safety and environmental training programs to communicate hazard control information. Assist in new employee occupational safety, health, and environmental orientation. Lead the Staff Safety Committee team and coordinated monthly safety committee meetings. Maintain a complete and up to date employee Right-to-Know program.
  • Compile, analyze, interpret, and report accident, loss, and exposure statistical data; prepare comprehensive recommendations for corrective action to eliminate or minimize potential hazards. Maintain OSHA log and complete annual statistical reporting. Maintain all OSHA and EPA recordkeeping.
  • Maintain plan for fire evacuation and disaster response. Serves as facility Emergency Response Coordinator.
  • Champion a sustainability program; leveraging organizational resources and their experience, the successful candidate will design, gain support for, and execute a comprehensive strategic plan to address sustainability.
  • Participate in new product/ process reviews including process hazard analyses, Operator Training, and implementations of engineering controls to minimize safety and occupational health hazards. Maintain safety data sheet files and insure all electronic SDS folders are updated as needed. Conduct annual chemical inventory.
  • Promote safety and health awareness through internal company memoranda and specific training programs. Prepare and distribute monthly safety talk materials to supervisors.
  • Advise Managers and Supervisors of regulatory changes with which the company must comply. Sufficient advance notice should be provided so that compliance on the effective date of new regulations is assured.
  • Direct environmental compliance programs related to hazardous wastes, air permitting, water pollution control, and community right-to-know programs. Manage waste disposal records and HAPS/VOC reporting. Incorporate essential occupational health, safety, and environmental requirements in all control actions. Recommend the purchase of safety equipment and supplies.
  • Perform other related duties as directed that correspond to the overall function of this position.Qualifications
    • Bachelor's degree or six years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • 3+ years of work experience in manufacturing safety environment.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Must be a self-starter, organized, and manage multiple priorities to timely completion.
    • Must possess intermediate working knowledge of MS Office to include Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
    • Ability to focus on details, but also see the strategic landscape.
    • Ability to be adaptable to change and perform with minimal direction.
    • Ability to lead through influence rather than direct authority.Physical Requirements

The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, toxic or caustic chemicals, and dust and/or mite hazards. The employee must be prepared to respond to emergencies should they occur. The noise level in the environment is usually moderate.
Compensation

The salary for this position is estimated to be around $85,000-$110,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.
