Position Summary:

The role involves welcoming patients, gathering demographic and financial details, securing necessary signatures, and processing payments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure all required demographic, billing, and clinical information is collected and accurately entered into the registration system in a timely manner.
  • Distribute necessary forms, documents, and educational materials to patients and their families.
  • Engage with patients and caregivers to exchange essential information and documentation, providing clarity on processes and addressing any concerns.
  • Coordinate with the admitting physician's office, nursing staff, and other relevant personnel to facilitate patient admissions and determine appropriate placements.
  • Manage appointment scheduling and communicate any changes to relevant departments and colleagues.
  • Verify insurance benefits and confirm authorizations/pre-certifications.
  • Review physician's orders for completeness and compliance, ensuring all necessary forms and records are in order.
  • Handle estimations, oversee upfront collections, process payments, establish payment plans, and assess patients' ability to pay, escalating issues as necessary.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent is required.

Required Skills:

  • Basic understanding of CPT & ICD10 codes, along with knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, and Managed Care Payers, as well as Medical Terminology.
  • Typing speed of at least 30 WPM with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Capacity to thrive in a high-pressure environment and respond appropriately.
  • Medium-level critical thinking skills.
  • Willingness to be cross-trained in multiple areas of Patient Access and adaptable to departmental needs, including working in the Emergency Department.
  • Ability to assess relevant CPT & HCPCS codes and confirm that necessary authorizations are in place.
  • Flexibility in scheduling, with the ability to work various shifts, including weekends and holidays, to ensure continuity of care.

Experience: One to two years of customer service and/or healthcare experience is preferred.
