POSITION SUMMARY
The Assistant Kitchen Manager oversees the back-of-house operations of the assigned restaurant, aiming to meet planned sales and profit targets through the effective implementation and management of company policies, procedures, and performance standards. This role involves providing guidance to kitchen staff to ensure the highest levels of guest satisfaction and a quality work environment.
REPORTING STRUCTURE
- Reports directly to the Kitchen Manager
- Engages with all levels of restaurant personnel, including the General Manager and Director of Operations
- Maintains relationships with guests, suppliers, and community organizations

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supports restaurant staff in achieving profit goals while maximizing guest satisfaction and employee development
- Ensures menu items are prepared and presented according to established standards and health regulations
- May perform various functions across all restaurant positions as needed
- Maintains inventory levels for food and non-food items through efficient ordering and usage
- Ensures compliance with productivity and service standards through effective training
- Manages facility and equipment maintenance, adhering to safety and sanitation standards
- Conducts staffing, training, and performance reviews for kitchen personnel
- Responsible for accurate financial reporting related to payroll, supplies, and operating expenses
- Participates in management meetings and presents information as required
- Ensures established objectives are met during supervisory periods
- Identifies and addresses system breakdowns to enhance guest satisfaction
- Facilitates thorough training and development of kitchen staff
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Requires extensive standing and walking for up to 8 hours
- Must possess good vision and communication skills
- Exposure to various kitchen conditions including heat and cleaning chemicals
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and carry trays of food
- Must demonstrate flexibility and time management skills
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
1-2 years of managerial experience in the food service industry is preferred, though not mandatory.
