Position Overview

The role involves overseeing daily operations related to the management of PACS and RIS systems, ensuring effective training and support for the medical professionals and administrative staff at Radiology Associates of Hartford.

Key Responsibilities

  • Address daily PACS/RIS challenges and respond to clinical system support inquiries.
  • Oversee relationships with current PACS/RIS and third-party clinical system vendors.
  • Provide guidance to management and supervising physicians on disaster recovery and operational protocols for PACS/RIS.
  • Investigate and resolve complex issues that may arise in departmental reporting within radiology/PACS.
  • Propose solutions to the Director of Clinical Applications & Product and other supervisory staff.
  • Update and maintain various departmental manuals and plans as necessary.
  • Advise on equipment purchases, ensuring DICOM compatibility.
  • Inform the Director of Clinical Applications & Product about advancements in clinical systems technology to keep Radiology Associates of Hartford at the forefront of the industry.
  • Design and implement PACS/RIS training programs and schedules for radiologists, referring physicians, and support staff.
  • Engage in professional events such as HIMMS, SIMM, and RSNA as required.
  • Enhance expertise in PACS systems through ongoing education and share insights with the Director of Clinical Applications & Product and other team members.
  • Support the marketing team with PACS/RIS web product initiatives and provide training to ensure effective implementation within the referring physician community.
  • Monitor short- and long-term archive space and collaborate with the Director of Clinical Applications & Product on archive solutions.
  • Integrate new modalities, workstations, facilities, and software into the PACS framework.
  • Stay informed about emerging technologies and industry standards.
  • Be available for after-hours work to perform system maintenance and address any operational disruptions.
  • Participate in staff meetings and training programs as required.
  • Ensure confidentiality of all patient health information (HIPAA) and PCI data.
  • Carry out additional duties as assigned by the Practice Administrator or Director of Clinical Applications & Product.

Qualifications & Skills

Education: Associate degree from a recognized institution or equivalent experience.

Field of Study: JRCERT accredited Radiology program.

Experience:

  • Minimum of five years in radiology or IT.
  • Familiarity with medical practice management software and hardware.
  • At least ten years in radiology or IS/IT roles, preferably in an administrative capacity.
  • Basic understanding of PACS and CR systems.
  • Proficient computer skills and knowledge of inter/intradepartmental workflows.
  • Strong communication skills to interact effectively with physicians, management, technical staff, and patients.
  • Aptitude for presenting technical information clearly and comprehensively.
