Job Description

Mechanic/Technician - Heavy Truck

Walbec Group, a leading construction company, is seeking a skilled Heavy Truck Mechanic to join our Waukesha maintenance and repair facility team.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in repairing and maintaining medium to class 8 trucks, including Freightliner, Peterbilt, Kenworth, Mack, Volvo, and Sterling models.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct thorough inspections and diagnostic tests to determine machine or vehicle condition
  • Perform preventive maintenance schedules, install component and part upgrades, and control corrosion
  • Correct deficiencies by removing, repairing, adjusting, overhauling, assembling, disassembling, and replacing major assemblies, sub-assemblies, components, parts, or systems
  • Verify proper performance by conducting test drives and adjusting controls and systems
  • Comply with federal and state vehicle requirements by testing engine, safety, and combustion control standards
  • Maintain vehicle records by annotating services and repair logs
  • Keep shop equipment operating by following operating instructions, troubleshooting breakdowns, maintaining supplies, performing preventive maintenance, and initiating repairs
  • Contain costs by using warranty coverage, evaluating service and parts options
  • Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading technical and regulation publications

Requirements:

  • Valid Driver's License and satisfactory driving record
  • Two to three years of prior work experience working on medium to class 8 trucks
  • Own tools up to 1/2" drive (most specialty tools supplied by the shop)
  • Prior experience performing diagnostics, including electrical troubleshooting and computer-aided diagnosis, as well as reading electrical and hydraulic schematics
  • High School diploma, vocational training, and certification from an accredited organization, or combination of schooling and relevant work experience
  • Strong technical understanding, good problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and thoroughness
  • Adaptable to new equipment and a willingness to learn and be trained
  • Prior experience documenting repairs and utilizing a parts-ordering system
  • Motivated, punctual, and dependable self-starter with good communication skills
  • Ability to work varied hours, including nights, early mornings, and weekends as needed
  • Tolerance for and ability to work in a typical heavy shop environment as part of a large team
