Job Summary:

The Cyber Security Specialist II will work out of the Glen Allen, Virginia office to monitor systems for security gaps, implement effective cyber security solutions, and provide reports to the Information Technology Security team. This individual conducts risk assessments, tests data processing systems and assists with the development of sophisticated cyber threat management capability. The Cyber Security Specialist provides agility and capability in identifying, detecting, protecting, and responding to cyber threats and predicting threats; recommends solutions for the Security Team; verifies problem resolution and maintains records of work performed. This individual is responsible for effectively and timely responding to issues with computer security vulnerabilities, phishing, malware, and forensic investigations and serves as subject matter expert (SME) specializing in host and network-based detection and prevention suites.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Cyber Security Management:
    • Effectively apply security defense tools, stay current with cyber related skills, and participates in multiple cyber forums.
    • Evaluate vulnerabilities, threats, procedures, and architectural designs to produce comprehensive intelligence reports.
    • Review project designs and specifications to confirm integration of appropriate security measures.
    • Use computer forensics tools to reconstruct cyber event activities to prevent future occurrences.
    • Secure cloud computing environments by implementing secure design principles, safeguarding the network against threats, and managing user identities to control access effectively.
    • Effectively interact with IT team members, compliance officer and external resources to ensure applications and systems are compliant.
    • Point person for security solutions
    • Conduct threat intelligence gathering to stay abreast of applicable cyber threats.
  • Infrastructure Support:
    • Incorporate ODEC established policy and procedures into the design and implementation of the infrastructure architecture, including hardware, system software, network, and security.
  • Manage Security-related software:
    • Manage and administer DUO multifactor authentication software.
    • Oversee administration of CrowdStrike Falcon XDR solution and ensure enhance security
    • Respond to alerts timely and effectively
  • Business Continuity:
    • Participate in disaster recovery planning, implementation, and testing to confirm appropriate system recovery capabilities for supported applications.
  • Vendor Relationship Management:
    • Manage vendor performance according to agreement terms, e.g., SLAs, deliverables, schedules.
  • Participate in and contribute to IT department meetings.
Work Experience Required:
  • 4 years minimum technical lead on host and network-based detection and prevention suites
  • 3 years minimum managing cyber incident detection and response procedures
  • 3 years minimum managing cyber policy and implementation
  • 3 years minimum professional experience managing IT security risk, threat, and vulnerability management
Critical Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Ability to effectively and professionally interact with various people and personalities
Preferred Knowledge and Skills:
  • Utilities industry, especially generation, transmission, and distribution, preferred.
Education: High school diploma or GED required. Bachelor's degree in Information Systems preferred. CISSP, CEH, CISA, CompTIA Security + or other relative cyber security certifications preferred.
