POSITION SUMMARY:

The Ophthalmology Clinical Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and managing the clinical personnel and the daily operations at the Hamilton Eye Institute. This role ensures the smooth and efficient flow of patients, staff, and healthcare providers within a bustling clinic setting. The supervisor will proactively identify and implement strategies to improve clinical operations, address challenges, and resolve issues involving patients, physicians, and clinical staff. A strong emphasis is placed on fostering a collaborative team environment and mentoring clinical staff.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The primary duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Acting as the hiring authority for clinical personnel.
  • Providing training and mentorship to clinical staff.
  • Managing attendance and timekeeping for clinical staff in accordance with established protocols.
  • Overseeing daily operations and management of clinical staff.
  • Implementing necessary changes and improvements to clinical operations.
  • Assisting the Clinic Manager with the onboarding process for new healthcare providers.
  • Reviewing and updating clinical protocols for providers as necessary.
  • Ordering and managing clinical supplies, instruments, and medications.
  • Troubleshooting equipment issues and liaising with IT or vendors as required.
  • Serving as a communication bridge between providers and technicians, as well as between providers and administrative staff.
  • Filling in as a technician when necessary.
  • Addressing patient complaints or directing them to the appropriate resources.
  • Supervising multiple full-time clinical staff, overseeing their professional development, training, and performance evaluations.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The ideal candidate will possess the following:

  • A high school diploma or GED, along with a minimum of five years of experience as an ophthalmic technician, including some supervisory or administrative experience.
  • COA Certification (mandatory).
  • COT Certification (highly preferred).
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to handle challenging situations with professionalism and diplomacy.
  • A commitment to providing exemplary customer service.
