GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Early Childhood Education Support Specialist assists classroom educators in delivering a high-quality, personalized educational experience for students. This role involves working during school hours and/or in after-school programs. The ideal candidate is a recent college graduate with aspirations of pursuing a career in education.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Facilitate developmentally appropriate classroom systems and procedures while managing student behavior to ensure full engagement in learning.
  • Design and implement lesson plans and classroom activities aligned with California State Standards and Aspire Instructional Guidelines.
  • Conduct regular assessments of students in accordance with Aspire guidelines and analyze the resulting data.
  • Collaborate with Aspire team members to enhance instructional practices and share effective strategies.
  • Assist classroom educators in providing timely information to students and their families regarding classroom activities and student progress.
  • May assist in tracking essential student information and maintaining accurate records, including attendance, following Aspire procedures.
  • Identify individual student needs and work with team members and external service providers to address learning challenges.
  • Support the planning and execution of differentiated instruction for students with diverse needs, including parallel teaching, small group, and one-on-one instruction.
  • Instruct students in after-school programs, focusing on intervention and acceleration for those below grade level.
  • Promote a school-wide culture of high expectations, including college preparation for all students; collaborate with College and Academic Counselors to support academic progress and college application processes.
  • Teach or co-teach Advisory classes aimed at developing students' character and habits.
  • Actively engage in professional development activities, including training sessions and collaboration with lead teachers, principals, and instructional coaches.
  • Pursue a career in education, which may involve enrolling in a teacher credential program.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of and support for Aspire Public Schools' mission, vision, values, standards, policies, procedures, and ethical guidelines.
  • Assist students with toileting needs.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
  1. Competencies:
  • Understanding of child cognitive development and various learning styles.
  • Willingness to implement Aspire Instructional Guidelines and Best Practices.
  • Ability to reflect on and improve instructional methods.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to collaborate with colleagues, parents, and the community.
  1. Minimum Educational Level:
  • Associate's degree or completion of 48 college credit units or passing of the Paraprofessional Test.
  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Teaching, or a related field preferred.
  1. Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, reach overhead, grasp, push, and pull. Move, lift, and/or carry up to 30 pounds to shoulder height.
  • Repetitive use of hands for fine manipulation and grasping.
  • Normal depth perception.
  • Ability to sit, walk, or stand for extended periods.
  • Dexterity to operate a computer keyboard and standard office equipment.
  • Ability to see and read a computer screen and printed materials with or without vision aids.
  • Ability to hear and understand speech at normal levels and on the telephone with or without auditory aids.
  1. Experience Required:
  • 1+ year of experience working with students as a teacher, teacher intern, or teaching assistant preferred.
  1. Work Authorization Requirements:
  • Clear the Department of Justice background screening.
  • Authorized to work in the United States.
  • Provide health (TB) clearance (updated every four years).
