POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Early Childhood Education Specialist is responsible for delivering exceptional educational experiences within a small, innovative preschool setting where each child is recognized and valued as an individual. This role involves working with transitional kindergarten students and supporting Aspire Public Schools' mission to provide high-quality public education for all students in California. Depending on the school year and enrollment, some specialists may also teach a combination of transitional kindergarten and kindergarten students.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Foster a culture of high expectations, ensuring that every student is encouraged to aspire to college.
  • Stay informed about contemporary ideas, trends, methods, programs, and materials in early childhood education.
  • Design and execute a developmentally appropriate curriculum tailored to transitional kindergarten children, bridging the gap between preschool and kindergarten.
  • Create a safe and enriching environment that meets the social, emotional, physical, and cognitive needs of young learners.
  • Support all students, particularly those from historically marginalized backgrounds, in an inclusive educational setting.
  • Develop lessons using a universal design for learning framework to ensure accessibility.
  • Craft and implement lesson plans and classroom activities aligned with California State Standards and Aspire's instructional guidelines.
  • Regularly assess student progress and analyze results to refine and differentiate instruction based on individual needs.
  • Collaborate with fellow educators to enhance instructional practices and share effective strategies.
  • Maintain open communication with students and their families regarding classroom activities and student achievements.
  • Engage parents and guardians as active partners in their children's education.
  • Utilize positive behavior strategies to manage and support student behavior, ensuring full engagement.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities and collaborate closely with lead teachers, support staff, and instructional coaches.
  • Keep accurate student records, including attendance.
  • Identify and address unique student needs in collaboration with team members.
  • Support the mission, vision, and core values of Aspire Public Schools.
  • Perform additional related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Strong understanding of early childhood education philosophies and practices.
  • Knowledge of child cognitive development and diverse learning styles.
  • Familiarity with California State Standards, CCSS, and subject-specific frameworks.
  • Willingness to implement Aspire's instructional guidelines and best practices.
  • Ability to analyze both qualitative and quantitative student data.
  • Commitment to reflecting on and improving instructional practices.
  • Capacity to collaborate effectively with colleagues, parents, and the community.
  • Ability to thrive in a school environment.
  • Proficient computer and internet research skills.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Valid California Multiple Subject Teaching Credential required, along with at least one of the following:
    • (1) transcripts confirming a minimum of 24 units in early childhood education or child development;
    • (2) a verification letter from a local educational agency confirming professional experience with preschool-aged children deemed comparable to 24 units; or
    • (3) evidence of a valid Child Development Teacher Permit issued by the Commission on Teacher Credentialing.
  • Permit options include: Child Development Teacher Permit, Child Development Master Teacher Permit, Child Development Site Supervisor Permit, or Child Development Program Director Permit.
  • English Language Learner Authorization required.
  • NCLB Highly Qualified status.
  • Preferred: 1+ year of experience working with early education students as a teacher, intern, or teaching assistant.
