Job Summary

The Fitness and Wellness Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and administering a comprehensive fitness program within the Recreation Department of the Division of Athletics and Recreation. This position ensures the needs of all members are well served by offering group fitness, personal training, small group training, fitness outreach, and specialized programs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and manage fitness programming, including group fitness, personal training, and small group training.
  • Supervise and monitor the fitness floor, as well as fitness equipment maintenance.
  • Recruit, hire, train, schedule, evaluate, supervise, and provide ongoing training to fitness staff.
  • Audition group fitness instructors and create class schedules.
  • Develop and manage the fitness budget, including creation of purchasing requisitions and bank card purchases.
  • Ensure safety procedures are followed and enforced within the Beacon Fitness Center.
  • Work with the Assistant Director of Recreational Services and Programming to communicate and market programs through various channels.
  • Conduct personal training appointments and teach group fitness classes as needed.
  • Assist in policy and procedure development, budget preparation, risk management policies, safety regulations, and emergency procedures.
  • Develop interest in new and emerging fitness programs and conduct participant satisfaction surveys.
  • Collaborate with university departments, divisions, and student organizations to create and enhance programming opportunities.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, or a related field.
  • Master's Degree preferred, with one to three years of experience working in a collegiate recreational setting or health club setting with supervisory experience.
  • Demonstrated success in implementing and managing fitness programming, including group fitness, personal training, and small group training.
  • Current and valid certification and qualifications in exercise health and science, CPR, and First Aid.
  • Knowledge of and ability to work with Microsoft Office and other administrative software programs and systems.
  • Ability to work with other elements of the university community in utilizing the athletic and recreation facilities.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, strong organizational skills, and attention to detail.
