Position SummaryWe are seeking applications for a pool of adjunct faculty members to teach courses in biology and related disciplines as opportunities arise. The number of available positions may fluctuate each semester based on departmental requirements. This applicant pool will be maintained for a duration of two years; individuals wishing to remain in the pool beyond this period must submit a new application. We are looking for exceptional educators capable of instructing both small and large classes, as well as seminars, discussions, or laboratory sessions.
Areas of instruction include, but are not limited to, anatomy, botany, ecology, evolution, genetics, insect biology, marine biology, microbiology, molecular biology, and physiology. A commitment to teaching excellence is essential. Appointments typically commence at the start of a semester, with the possibility of renewal contingent upon departmental needs, funding availability, and individual performance.
- Exhibit an understanding of and address the diverse needs of a varied student population, including differences in age, abilities, cultural backgrounds, ethnicities, religions, economic statuses, primary languages, sexual orientations, gender identities, and academic preparations through inclusive teaching materials and strategies.
- Instructors are required to manage all course materials within the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS).
- All courses must be conducted as scheduled throughout the entire semester or term, in the assigned format (e.g., asynchronous, synchronous, hybrid, or in-person).
A Ph.D. in biology or a closely related field is highly preferred; however, candidates with an M.S. in biology and relevant teaching experience may be considered for specific courses. Strong oral and written communication skills, along with a dedication to student learning and collaborative performance, are required. Applicants should demonstrate an understanding of and sensitivity to the educational aspirations of a multicultural student body, which may have been developed through cross-cultural experiences, training, or teaching.
CompensationSalary and compensation will be determined based on qualifications and experience.
Anticipated starting salary ranges include:
L-A / Range 2 - $5007 - $5675
L-B / Range 3 - $5925 - $7125
L-C / Range 4 - $6500 - $8982
L-D / Range 5 - $8184 - $9854

Employment ConditionsFaculty members are required to complete assigned CSU employee training related to their roles, including training on preventing discrimination and harassment, gender equity, and health and safety protocols. The faculty member in this role will be subject to ongoing review for designation as a Campus Security Authority (CSA) and must report incidents as required.
Conditional Offer
This faculty position requires commuting to the campus. Employment is contingent upon proof of eligibility to work in the United States. Offers of employment may be rescinded if background checks reveal disqualifying information or if it is found that the candidate withheld or falsified information.
Appointments are subject to budgetary and enrollment considerations and follow the order of assignment provisions outlined in the collective bargaining agreement.
