Job Overview

Empire Office is seeking a Dock Supervisor at our Secaucus location to oversee all dock operations, ensuring the smooth flow of goods in and out of the warehouse. This role requires hands-on experience in managing dock activities, from receiving shipments to dispatching goods, while supervising a team and ensuring compliance with company standards.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Ensure efficient and accurate handling of inbound and outbound shipments, directing the loading and unloading of trucks, and addressing any issues that arise during the shipping and receiving process.
  2. Assign tasks to the dock staff, monitor their performance, and provide ongoing training and development opportunities, promoting a culture of safety and high performance within the team.
  3. Verify the accuracy of incoming and outgoing shipments, including the correct identification of product pieces and parts, and work with the warehouse team to maintain accurate inventory records and resolve any discrepancies.
  4. Enforce all safety procedures on the dock, including the proper operation of equipment and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), conducting regular safety checks and addressing any hazards promptly.
  5. Work closely with other departments to schedule shipments and allocate resources effectively, communicating with drivers and third-party logistics providers to ensure smooth operations.
  6. Address operational challenges, such as damaged goods, delays, or equipment malfunctions, working proactively to minimize disruptions and maintain productivity on the dock.
  7. Identify opportunities to improve dock operations, including workflow efficiency, safety practices, and team performance, implementing process improvements as needed to enhance overall productivity.
  8. Maintain all material handling equipment logs and service records, ensuring the warehouse is always clean and orderly.
  9. Monitor workloads and forecast labor requirements for warehouse duties.
Qualifications
  1. Experience in dock operations, warehouse supervision, or a related field, preferably within the commercial furniture industry.
  2. Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage, motivate, and develop a team.
  3. Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities, with a focus on accuracy and efficiency.
  4. Problem-solving skills, with the ability to handle operational challenges in a fast-paced environment.
  5. Effective communication skills, capable of coordinating with multiple departments and external partners.
  6. In-depth knowledge of safety regulations and procedures specific to dock and warehouse environments.
  7. Proficiency in using warehouse management systems and other relevant software.
  8. Skilled operator of warehouse material handling equipment.
