Job Summary

As a key member of our store management team, you will be responsible for leading the Meat department and assisting the store management team in creating a positive shopping experience for our customers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Store Manager with all Meat Department responsibilities
  • Oversee all Meat Department responsibilities, including customer service, management, ordering, receiving of products, scheduling, and paperwork
  • Under the direction of the Store Manager, provide in-service training for all meat department employees, including training and documentation
  • Assist the Store Manager with maintaining the appropriate profit margins in accordance with the approved preset budget for the meat department
  • Help manage costs by controlling shrink and theft
  • Cut, trim, and prepare a variety of meats, including beef, pork, and poultry, to retail high-quality specifications
  • Supervise and delegate tasks to meet department team members
  • Develop and maintain meat workshop equipment, temperature, sweep, and sanitation logs
  • Complete weekly inventory management and be responsible for receiving and inspecting deliveries
  • Collaborate with the Merchandise department and store management team to create unique and seasonal offerings or promotions
  • Create work schedules for the meat department and ensure compliance with company and legal requirements
  • Foster a positive environment of outstanding teamwork, mutual respect, and exceptional morale
  • Handle customer complaints in a manner that assures customer satisfaction
  • Demonstrate advanced product knowledge and maintain awareness of new products
  • Assist the Store Manager and EHS team with safety meetings or trainings and ensure compliance with Cal OSHA requirements
  • Support store management team in documenting department meetings and obtaining employee signatures
  • Follow the employee handbook at all times, especially on service standards and appearance

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 3 years' experience as a butcher and manager in a high-end market or specialty butcher shop
  • Strong knowledge of meat preparation techniques and culinary applications
  • Ability to read and interpret English documents, including safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to use English to write routine reports and correspondences
  • Ability to speak English effectively before groups, such as customers and employees
  • Basic mathematical skills, including the ability to calculate figures and amounts
  • General reasoning ability, including the ability to interpret a variety of instructions and resolve conflicts
