Position Overview: Transplant Nursing Care Specialist
The Transplant Nursing Care Specialist is entrusted with providing clinical expertise for patients undergoing transplant procedures.
This role encompasses responsibilities as a clinician, educator, investigator, consultant, and leader, employing clinical judgment informed by current research and best practices to address complex patient needs.
As a vital member of the transplant interdisciplinary team, the Transplant Nursing Care Specialist collaborates closely with nurse coordinators and transplant physicians, adhering to established transplant protocols to ensure excellence in patient care, research, and education.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver specialized nursing care, treatment, and education to patients, following physician orders and established protocols.
- Act as a resource for patients and families, offering preoperative guidance and post-discharge support.
- Coordinate the creation, implementation, and assessment of educational resources that empower patients and caregivers in self-care.
- Champion evidence-based practices through staff education and participation in the development and evaluation of care standards, protocols, and guidelines.
- Collaborate in the preparation of standardized orders and updates to protocol-driven practices.
- Assess the educational needs of patients and caregivers concerning disease processes and reintegration into home and community.
- Engage in quality improvement initiatives, product evaluations, and clinical research.
- Utilize teaching methodologies to support patients and families in coping with the physical and emotional challenges of chronic illness.
- Provide mentorship to nursing students and participate in the orientation of new nursing staff, offering expert guidance and support.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required.
- A minimum of three years of bedside nursing experience is essential.
- Experience in transplant or chronic disease management nursing is highly desirable.
- Current RN license issued by NCBON or multi-state compact RN licensure is required.
- BLS certification is mandatory.
Work Schedule:
This is a full-time salaried position with a schedule that does not include rotational weekends, holidays, or on-call duties.
The role involves comprehensive patient assessments in a clinical setting, telephone triage, and patient education to ensure exceptional care.
Shifts: Day Shift, Monday – Friday, hours determined per program practice.
