Bus Driver/Custodian

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Bus Driver/Custodian to join our team at Greene County Schools. The successful candidate will be responsible for safely transporting students to and from school, as well as maintaining the cleanliness and organization of our facilities.

• Bus Driver Duties:
  • Obeys all traffic laws and regulations.
  • Observes all mandatory safety regulations for school buses.
  • Maintains discipline when students are on the bus and reports any misconduct to the principal.
  • Keeps the assigned bus clean and ensures that any substitute bus is clean before use.
  • Checks the bus before each operation for mechanical issues.
  • Notifies the proper authority in case of mechanical failure or accident.
  • Discharges students only at authorized stops.
  • Exercises responsible leadership when on out-of-district school trips.
  • Transports only authorized students.
  • Reports all accidents immediately to the authorities and completes required paperwork.
  • Enforces regulations against tobacco usage and eating on the bus.
  • Promotes safety and enforces safety rules with students on the bus.
  • Undergoes a physical examination and attends driver training classes annually.
  • Obeys and enforces all Greene County rules and policies for bus drivers and students.
• Custodian Duties:
  • Keeps the building and grounds neat and clean at all times.
  • Regulates heat/air conditioning systems to provide a comfortable temperature and ensure economical usage of utilities.
  • Shovels or treats all entrances and walkways during ice and snow events as necessary.
  • Checks daily to ensure all exit doors are locked and secure, and checks often to see that all doors and hardware operate properly.
  • Cleans floors daily and more often as conditions require.
  • Cleans and dusts furniture regularly and as needed.
  • Scrubs, cleans, and disinfects all bathroom floors and fixtures daily.
  • Cleans and disinfects all drinking fountains twice daily and more often as directed by the principal.
  • Washes all windows, inside and outside, as needed.
  • Maintains school property, including cutting grass, tree trimming, weed eating, brush removal, and pest control.
  • Makes minor repairs as needed and inspects all maintenance requests to determine the proper manner to ensure repair.
  • Reports major repairs to the principal and Maintenance Department.
  • Maintains a regular schedule of service to all motorized and mechanical equipment.
  • Reports immediately any property damage or vandalism to the principal.
  • Maintains a regular schedule as designated by the principal, which may include opening and closing the building and completing a check sheet of tasks performed during a work day.
  • Keeps an inventory of all supplies and equipment and makes requisitions of all needed items.
  • Moves any furniture or equipment as directed by the principal.
  • Changes air filters monthly and light bulbs and ballasts as needed.
  • Maintains all records as required by OSHA, MSDS, and safety, including proper disposal, and any record keeping as required by the Maintenance Department.
  • Serves as a substitute bus driver at the assigned school or any other school as required.

• Class A or B CDL with P&S endorsements.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for long periods.
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
