Operating Room Surgical Aide

Mass General Brigham is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Operating Room Surgical Aide to join our team. As an integral part of the healthcare team, you will be responsible for maintaining a safe environment in which quality patient care is delivered.
As an Operating Room Surgical Aide, you will work under the direct supervision of the registered professional nurse, the Pod Leader, and the Operating Room Charge Nurse. Your primary responsibilities will include transporting patients to and from the Operating Room and other locations, assisting nursing staff in the rooms with patient care, and performing between-case cleaning to minimize turnaround between surgical procedures.
You will also be responsible for maintaining inventory levels of specified stock items in the Operating Room, preparing stretchers and oxygen tanks to ensure they are ready and available when needed for patient transport, and delivering specimens and blood products to and from the Laboratory and Radiology as directed by nursing personnel.
Additionally, you will be responsible for performing shave prep on surgical patients as directed, according to established guidelines, policy and procedure. You will also determine specific waste type, i.e. hazardous vs. regular, for proper disposal of O.R. trash, and maintain order and cleanliness in the CSR2 Soiled room where linen, trash, and infectious waste are stored prior to disposal via CSR/Environmental Services.
As a member of our team, you will be expected to communicate pertinent information with regard to patient care concerns to appropriate personnel, and apply the principles of asepsis to maintain integrity of the sterile field. You will also assist and collaborate with the Circulating nurse and Surgical Technologist to set up for surgical procedures with proper instrumentation, equipment and supplies.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Satisfactory references
- CPR training required
