Job Summary

The Clinical Charge Nurse BSN is a key member of our healthcare team, responsible for providing high-quality patient care and leading the Oncology Unit with expertise and compassion.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Leadership and Clinical Expertise: Demonstrate effective and safe clinical practice, actively seeking feedback and performance coaching to improve patient outcomes and experiences.
  2. Patient Advocacy: Resolve or facilitate resolution of patient and family concerns/complaints, serving as a secondary resource for escalation.
  3. Safety and Quality: Recognize and resolve safety issues and potential unsafe situations within approved policies, procedures, and protocols.
  4. Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Effectively lead shift and post-event huddles, facilitating and leading interdisciplinary care transition rounds and planning of care for optimal utilization, care transitions, and safe disposition.
  5. Communication and Teamwork: Consistently demonstrate compliance and monitoring for department service standards, such as purposeful hourly rounding, bedside shift report, and white board management, to enhance communication and teamwork.
  6. Staffing and Resource Optimization: Demonstrate an understanding and effective application of staffing effectiveness principles and optimization of resources to meet dynamic patient care needs in real-time.
  7. Unit Productivity and Efficiency: Effectively manage unit productivity in a favorable way through good planning, organization, and time management, minimizing incremental overtime.
  8. Patient Safety and Throughput: Identify and participate in activities to improve patient safety, patient throughput, reduce length of stay, and prevent readmission.
  9. Associate Development and Retention: Actively participate and assist in the selection, development, and retention of associates, serving as a coach and resource to peers, staff, and other healthcare team members, and contribute to creating and sustaining a healthy work environment.
  10. Medication Administration and Delegation: Demonstrate effective medication administration provided to patients, as evidenced by Preceptor Observation Tool, Skills Fair Demonstration, and Clinical Practice, and demonstrate appropriate delegation and supervision of patient care activities within the healthcare setting.
  11. Patient Experience and Satisfaction: Contribute to the patient experience, as evidenced by positive patient satisfaction scores and HCAHPs scores for the department/medical center, and consistently perform purposeful hourly rounding and bedside shift report.
Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
  • Licensure: Current State of Florida RN licensure or endorsement.
  • Work Experience: Minimum of two (2) years of relevant clinical experience preferred.
  • Certification: Must hold current American Heart Association Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider Completion Card prior to start date and maintain. Must maintain other certification(s) as required by specific unit. National certification in relevant specialty preferred.
  • Skills/Knowledge/Abilities: Must be able to speak/understand written and verbal instructions in the English language. Must meet unit-specific care requirements. Must have ability to work in often stressful environments with patients/families at various ages and levels of understanding. Must have ability to concentrate on multiple priority activities. Must have ability to respond appropriately to life-threatening situations. Must have critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Demonstrates dependability, reliability, and flexibility. Must have highly developed verbal and non-verbal communication skills.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Physically agile; may require walking, standing, running, bending, stooping, kneeling, climbing, or crouching frequently.
  • May occasionally include lifting or moving objects up to 50 pounds, with or without assistance.
  • May require moving in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments, including tight and confined spaces, including reaching out and above shoulders, or overhead.
  • May lift, turn, pull, push, or ambulate people and/or equipment with or without assistance up to 90% of the assigned shift.
  • May be exposed to inside and outside environments with varied temperatures, air quality, lighting, and/or low to loud noise.
  • May require working with biohazards such as blood/body fluids and airborne particles following OSHA and CDC guidelines.
  • Communicating with others to exchange information.
  • Visual acuity and hand-eye coordination to perform tasks.
  • Workspace may vary from open to confined, onsite or remote.
  • May require travel to various facilities within and beyond county perimeter; may require use of personal vehicle.
