This key role will be responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive benefit programs that meet the needs of the University's employees and align with its overall business strategies.
Key Responsibilities- Benefits Strategy and Planning
- Analyze and design benefit programs to ensure they are effective, comprehensive, and meet the needs of employees and the University.
- Collaborate with stakeholders and University leadership to gain consensus on long-term health and welfare strategy.
- Develop and lead major benefit initiatives from strategy to implementation.
- Benefits Operations and Administration
- Lead benefit enrollment efforts, including analysis and reporting on benefit enrollments and employee participation.
- Direct day-to-day benefits department operations, including review of system benefits setups and processes.
- Advises and guides management and employees on existing benefits.
- Benefits Compliance and Risk Management
- Ensure company benefit programs are consistently administered in compliance with company policies and government regulations.
- Supervise preparation of reports and applications required by law to be filed with federal and state agencies.
- Monitor and analyze impact of health care reform and ensure compliance with all applicable regulations.
- Leadership and Management
- Manage all benefits staff, including interviewing, hiring, and training employees.
- Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the University's policies and applicable law.
- Serve as an internal expert to University leaders regarding benefit policies and procedures.
- Reporting and Special Projects
- Prepare reports and participate in special projects as requested by the Associate Vice President of Total Rewards or University leadership.
- Lead plan document re-writes and amendments with actuaries, attorneys, and appropriate University representatives.
- Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field.
- Minimum 10 years of related HR experience, 5 of which is in a benefits leadership role preferably in an University/Academic Medical Center or comparable.
- Commitment to the University's core values.
- Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
- Ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships.
- Ability to recognize, analyze, and solve a variety of problems.
- Ability to manage a budget and work within the constraints of that budget.
- Ability to direct, manage, implement, and evaluate department operations.
- Ability to establish department goals and objectives that support the strategic plan.
- Proficiency in computer software (i.e. Microsoft Office).
