Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Underwriting Consultant to join our team at Lincoln Financial Group. As an Underwriting Consultant, you will be responsible for underwriting new business opportunities for profitable growth, completing RFP documents, and mentoring non-Specialty Health underwriters.

Key Responsibilities
  • Underwrite new business opportunities for profitable growth, including financial risk assessment, contract comparison, demographic analysis, and experience-rating.
  • Complete RFP documents, including proposals, questionnaires, bid forms, and online quote platforms.
  • Mentor non-Specialty Health underwriters on Supplemental Health and Dental/Vision products.
  • Maintain proficiency of Lincoln's pricing and reporting tools.
  • Manage an assigned inforce book of business by handling change requests and renewals.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with assigned field offices.
  • Consult and negotiate with Distribution partners and Brokers.
  • Respond to appeals within designated authority.
  • Present case underwriting to leadership team as necessary.
  • Collaborate with core underwriters to coordinate proposals and renewals on shared customers.
  • Coordinate with operational teams to ensure accurate preparation of plans with appropriate coverage levels and pricing.
  • Mentor and assist with training as needed.
  • Serve as subject matter expert as appropriate.
  • Identify and communicate process improvements that improve efficiency and/or quality of work.
  • Participate in projects related to process improvements, pricing tool enhancements, underwriting documentation, product developments, and increasing underwriting knowledge and acumen.
  • Represent underwriting in cross-functional projects.
  • Adhere to Lincoln's underwriting guidelines and authority limits.
  • Assist with other assignments/projects as needed during peak and off-seasons.
  • Maintain knowledge of current and emerging trends and take appropriate actions to incorporate into underwriting practices to maintain Lincoln's competitive advantage.
  • Promote and enhance organizational initiatives by positively influencing and supporting change management and/or departmental/enterprise initiatives.
  • Adhere to departmental and corporate compliance documentation and reporting requirements.
Requirements
  • 4 Year/Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience (4 years of experience in lieu of Bachelor's) (Minimum Required)
  • 3-5+ Years of Supplemental Health and Dental underwriting experience (Dental strongly preferred)

Pay Range:

$67,000 - $120,700 Actual base pay could vary based on non-discriminatory factors including but not limited to work experience, education, location, licensure requirements, proficiency, and qualifications required for the role. The base pay is just one component of Lincoln's total rewards package for employees. In addition, the role may be eligible for the Annual Incentive Program, which is discretionary and based on the performance of the company, business unit, and individual. Other rewards may include long-term incentives, sales incentives, and Lincoln's standard benefits package.
