Position Summary:
We are seeking a Lead Culinary Specialist to oversee the preparation and service of meals and snacks for 50 to 100 children across multiple classrooms and meal schedules.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assess food requirements for meals and snacks; procure food and kitchen supplies efficiently.
- Prepare and serve nutritious meals and snacks for children and adults (staff and volunteers) in compliance with CACFP Regulations.
- Ensure the safety and health of children with documented food allergies/intolerances by providing safe alternative foods under the guidance of the Registered Dietitian and Food Service Specialist.
- Assist in menu development and maintain accurate food service records in accordance with CACFP standards.
- Act as a working leader, offering guidance and daily supervision to Cook Aide.
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitary conditions in the kitchen, dining areas, and storage spaces per Health Department Regulations.
- Prepare and serve food safely and hygienically, adhering to Health Department guidelines.
- Support children and staff during meal service as needed.
- Maintain an emergency menu for substitute coverage or other unforeseen circumstances; ensure adequate emergency food and supplies are available.
- Collaborate with teaching staff on the Nutrition Component as necessary.
- Work cooperatively with all program staff to ensure compliance with program requirements.
- Participate in cook's meetings, total staff training, and center staff meetings.
- Engage in professional development training and meetings.
- Collaborate with center staff on special projects, such as field trips, picnics, and community events.
Qualifications:
- Familiarity with food service and food preparation guidelines is essential.
- Ability to work effectively with staff, preschool children, volunteers, and parents in a friendly and open manner.
- Demonstrated good judgment and organizational skills.
- Flexibility regarding scheduling and job-related responsibilities is required.
- Exhibit strong role modeling for staff, children, and parents; capable of providing effective guidance to Cook Aide and volunteers.
- Ability to follow both oral and written instructions.
- Possession of a valid NYS Driver's License with a clean record and access to a vehicle for job-related travel; must maintain Personal Vehicle Certification under the Agency's Driving Policy.
- Physical capability to stand for extended periods and lift objects over 35 lbs regularly.
Minimum Requirements:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- A minimum of one year of experience in food preparation within a food service environment is required.
- Leadership experience and familiarity with quantity food preparation are preferred.
