Position Summary

Denver Botanic Gardens is in search of a Seasonal Event Production Coordinator to assist our Events Department. This role is pivotal in supporting the Public Events team at York Street, focusing on the installation and dismantling of lighting, sound, props, and scenic design elements for our signature nighttime events, including Glow at the Gardens and Blossoms of Light. The ideal candidate must be flexible, with availability for daytime, evening, weekend, and holiday shifts, and be prepared to work in various environments, including both indoor and outdoor settings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set up and dismantle event equipment, including lighting and sound systems, props, and decorative elements.
  • Execute event duties during assigned shifts, which include maintaining and troubleshooting decor, lighting, and sound systems, as well as managing signage and pathway closures.
  • Participate in safety protocols, including snow removal and guest relations.
  • Oversee volunteer pumpkin carvers and coordinate the production of carved pumpkins for Glow at the Gardens.
  • Assist in resolving minor guest inquiries in a friendly and effective manner.
  • Help with inventory management and organization of event supplies at both on-site and off-site storage locations.
  • Complete production tasks in preparation for events, which may involve building props, scenic painting, and preparing equipment.
  • Communicate project updates and inquiries through the team's project management system.
  • Occasionally assist the private events team with setup and crowd management for various client events.
  • Adhere to radio communication protocols and assist with basic administrative tasks as needed.
  • Maintain regular attendance and commitment to the Gardens' mission of connecting people with plants.

Qualifications

  • Comfortable using ladders, electric pallet jacks, golf carts, and power tools.
  • Basic knowledge of electrical systems for lighting and sound installations is required.
  • Experience in theatrical carpentry, prop-making, and scenic painting is preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret event instructions and safety guidelines.
  • Physical capability to lift and maneuver up to 50 pounds regularly and perform labor-intensive tasks outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills are essential.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.

Travel Requirements

Some travel may be necessary for offsite storage access.
