Job Summary

The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a skilled Diesel Truck Mechanic to join our team. As a key member of our equipment team, you will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining light, heavy-duty, and diesel trucks, as well as diverse road construction and maintenance equipment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and repair differentials, transmissions, A/C, pneumatic, and electrical systems
  • Perform heating, cutting, welding, and fabrication of components
  • Prepare daily time cards with charges and description of tasks performed
  • Maintain records according to established guidelines

Requirements

  • Knowledge of the diagnosis, repair, and maintenance of automotive, construction, and maintenance equipment
  • Ability to operate various types of light, medium, and heavy-duty trucks, equipment, and tools in a safe manner
  • Ability to independently perform major repairs and maintenance using hand and power tools on diverse diesel and gasoline trucks and equipment
  • Ability to read, comprehend, and apply information from service and equipment repair manuals, gauges, and testing devices
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions, and to record and maintain detailed work orders and service records in computer system
  • Ability to obtain CDL within 11 months of employment and maintain thereafter
  • Ability to obtain VA State Vehicle Inspection License within 6 months of employment and maintain thereafter
  • Valid Driver's License

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience inspecting, troubleshooting, and repairing diesel truck, agriculture, and/or construction equipment
  • Experience in the diagnosis and repair of equipment systems such as: electrical, fuel, hydraulic, HVAC
  • ASE certifications
  • Current VA State Vehicle Inspection License
  • CDL

Working Conditions

This position requires the ability to perform heavy manual labor, including standing, bending, and frequent lifting up to 30 lbs. The selected candidate must complete a pre-employment physical and drug screen. References, work history, and DMV records and licensure will be verified. Fingerprint-based background check required. Position requires approved safety shoes.

Essential Functions

This position is designated as essential and as such, all duties associated with this position are required during emergency situations, which may include, but are not limited to inclement weather, disaster response, and emergency operations, at times outside of normal working hours.
