Job Summary

The Histotechnologist II - Histology Laboratory Specialist will perform a variety of technical procedures on clinical and research specimens in the histology laboratory. This individual will be responsible for preparing tissue samples for microscopic examination by a pathologist, performing grossing/dissection of small specimens, and maintaining laboratory equipment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Tissue Preparation
    • Prepare tissue samples for microscopic examination by a pathologist.
    • Perform grossing/dissection of small specimens, including renal/kidney and heart tissue.
  • Laboratory Operations
    • Maintain laboratory equipment and troubleshoot automated laboratory equipment.
    • Perform quality assurance procedures, such as block and slide match, reagent monitoring, and report discrepancies.
  • Specialized Procedures
    • Perform special stain techniques, including immunofluorescence staining.
    • Embed specimens and prepare various staining solutions.
  • Record Keeping and Communication
    • Maintain accurate and detailed records.
    • Provide accurate information on work conducted for client billing purposes, regulatory compliance, and quality assurance.

Requirements

  • Education
    • Associate's Degree from an accredited Histotechnology program.
  • Experience
    • Two years of laboratory experience that includes some histology experience.
  • Preferred Qualifications
    • Bachelor's in Biology, Chemistry, Histology, or related field experience.

Work Environment

  • The employee will work in a laboratory environment with exposure to toxins and infectious agents.
  • The employee will be required to wear personal protective equipment and follow proper laboratory protocols and safety procedures.
