As a key member of our Advanced Practice Provider (APP) team, you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality patient care in our Neuro ICU and Neuro Intermediate Care Unit. You will work collaboratively with our interdisciplinary team to ensure seamless patient care and management throughout the healthcare system.
Responsibilities:- Manage critically ill patients, post-operative neurosurgical patients, and neurology patients
- Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to ensure effective patient care and management
- Document patient information, including health histories and physical assessments
- Formulate diagnoses, identify problems, and health risk profiles
- Perform and interpret diagnostic studies, such as x-rays and laboratory tests
- Order medications, treatments, and therapies in accordance with Virginia Prescriptive regulations
- Request consultation and initiate referrals to other healthcare providers as needed
- Evaluate and analyze patient responses to disease processes and/or therapeutic, diagnostic interventions
- Provide information, education, and support to patients/families regarding disease processes and treatment plans
- Participate in on-call responsibilities as appropriate and as determined by department or unit
- Manage patients in accordance with established UVA Medical Center and UVA UPG policies and procedures
- Report births, deaths, outbreaks of communicable diseases, and other information critical to the patient's and/or the public's health as required by legal or governmental authorities
- Meet quality standards as determined by the Medical Director and/or UVA Health System
- Graduate of an accredited graduate school of nursing or physician assistant program with a master's degree
- Department and unit-specific experience
- License or license eligible as an Advance Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner, Physician Associate, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist, and Certified Nurse Midwife) as set forth by the state of Virginia
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required
- Current PALS/NRP, as required, specific to position
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) as required, specific to position
The job requires standing for prolonged periods, frequently bending/stooping, reaching (overhead, extensive, and repetitive); Repetitive motion: computer keyboard. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; Ability to lift/push/pull lbs. May be exposed to noise, radiation, radioactive materials, blood/body fluids, and infectious disease.
