Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled EMS Specialist to join our team at UPMC. As a key member of our emergency medical services team, you will be responsible for providing medical command and coordination services to support the delivery of high-quality patient care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Establish and maintain effective professional relationships with local government officials, EMS agencies, and other healthcare facilities.
  • Develop and implement response plans for special events and mass gatherings.
  • Develop and execute action plans for quality improvement initiatives.
  • Organize and implement EMS recognition events and continuing medical education programs.
  • Manage the medical command authorization process and standardized treatment guidelines.
  • Coordinate the accreditation process for UPMC hospitals as Medical Command Facilities.
  • Recruit and manage special event medical coverage and coordinate community health events.
  • Formalize agreements with EMS agencies and transportation systems.
  • Provide expertise to hospital disaster committees and other committees as required.
Requirements
  • 3 years of experience in EMS or a BA degree in Emergency Medicine.
  • Masters degree in Emergency Medical Services or a related field preferred.
  • Experience with supervision of medical coverage for mass gatherings and EMS quality improvement programs.
  • Previous experience in public speaking and development of clinical EMS protocols, policies, and procedures.
  • Experience in the coordination and implementation of research programs pertaining to EMS.
  • Familiarity with EMS billing and community health events.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances
  • Instructor certification in trauma life support, ACLS, BCLS, and PALS preferred.
  • Certification as a CCEMT-P preferred.
  • Driver's License/Paramedic or Pre-Hospital Registered Nurse (PHRN).
  • Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal.
  • Act 33 with renewal.
  • Act 34 with renewal.
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal.
