Communication Specialist

We are seeking a skilled Communication Specialist to join our Regional Transfer Center team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for coordinating patient transport, responding to emergency requests, and providing exceptional customer service.
Key Responsibilities- Coordinate patient transport, including air and ground transport, to ensure timely and safe delivery of patients to their destinations.
- Respond to emergency requests from physicians, outlying facilities, and 911 centers, using discretion and independent judgment to determine the appropriate level of care and transport mode.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare teams to ensure seamless transitions and high-quality care.
- Maintain accurate records of patient information, including pre- and post-transport documentation, and transport records.
- Collaborate with the Regional Transfer Center RN, accepting physician, referring physician, and transport operations supervisors to ensure the most appropriate transport mode is utilized for all patient transfer requests.
- Facilitate physician conferences across the region and ensure emergent transportation as indicated.
- Monitor and track all vehicle movements (ground and air) utilizing provided tracking software and maintain situational awareness of other aircraft operating in the service area.
- Alert specific receiving and referring hospital/departments of transport updates and complete all necessary documentation.
- High School Diploma required; Two-year degree in a related field preferred.
- Current and valid NC EMT certification or equivalent education preferred.
- EMS dispatch experience required; knowledge of medical terminology required; aviation terminology preferred.
- Working knowledge of alpha/numerical paging systems, web-based programs, and advanced phone systems.
- Must obtain Certified Flight Communicator (CFC) through International Association of Medical Transport Communication Specialists (IAMTCS) within 30 days of hire date.
