Job Title: Paramedic - Emergency Medical Technician

We are seeking a highly skilled Paramedic - Emergency Medical Technician to join our team at the City of Myrtle Beach, SC. As a Paramedic - Emergency Medical Technician, you will be responsible for providing emergency medical treatment at the paramedic level, protecting life and property, and maintaining all assigned equipment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Respond to emergency calls for medical assistance, motor vehicle accidents, natural disasters, explosions, bomb threats, incidents involving aircraft, and other emergency situations.
  • Provide basic, intermediate, and advanced life support treatment to patients, including transportation to appropriate medical facilities.
  • Assess patient conditions and make decisions regarding proper courses of action.
  • Administer initial advanced level treatment at emergency scenes, including CPR, cardiac monitoring, medication calculation and administration, immobilization of body, wound treatment, control of bleeding, monitoring and relaying of vital signs, oxygen and IV/IO therapy administration, sterile suctioning, intubation, defibrillation, ECG monitoring, 12-lead diagnostic monitoring to identify life-threatening cardiac conditions, auto-pulse utilization, continuous positive airway pressure administration, pleural decompression, management of cardiac arrest and severe trauma patients requiring field identification and diagnosis of required hospital surgical intervention and resources.
  • Maintain radio communications with dispatch centers, hospital personnel, and other public safety agencies to receive and transmit instructions involving patient care.
  • Function as the primary field triage officer in mass-casualty incidents.
  • Maintain all treatment-related documentation.
  • Maintain inventory of controlled substances on a daily basis.
  • Maintain, inventory, and order medications from Logistics, as required.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Preferably two (2) years of experience as a Paramedic.
  • Recent 911 Paramedic experience required within 1 year.
  • Must possess and maintain valid certifications in SC EMT-Paramedic, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (C.P.R), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and Basic Life Support (BLS).
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
Working Conditions:

The tasks require the ability to exert heavy physical effort in heavy work, with greater emphasis on balancing, but typically also involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials pounds); may occasionally involve heavier objects and materials (up to 100 pounds).

Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as carcinogens, dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, temperature and noise extremes, machinery, vibrations, electric currents, traffic hazards, toxic agents, violence, disease, or pathogenic substances.
