Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Patient Finance Specialist to join our team at the Public Health Trust of Dade Co. As a Patient Finance Specialist, you will play a critical role in ensuring timely and accurate patient registration, verifying insurance coverage, and collecting patient liable amounts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Interview patients and/or family members to obtain all necessary account information and verify insurance coverage
  • Search the Master Patient Index (MPI) to assign the correct medical record number and notify supervisors of any discrepancies
  • Verify insurance and obtain pre-certification/authorization for services as needed
  • Calculate and collect patient liable amounts and explain policies regarding services rendered
  • Process patient payments and maintain the integrity of all payments
  • Secure required signatures for treatments, release of medical information, and assignment of insurance benefits
  • Obtain copies of necessary patient identification and insurance cards and scan documents in a timely manner
  • Answer patient and visitor questions and provide clear explanations of policies
  • Assist patients and family members with appointment scheduling and process patient charts according to established productivity standards
  • Produce paperwork for distribution to appropriate departments and align pertinent documents for establishing patient medical records and financial files

Requirements

  • 0-3 years of related experience
  • High school diploma required; Bachelor's degree in a related field strongly preferred
  • Ability to analyze, organize, and prioritize work accurately while meeting multiple deadlines
  • Effective communication and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to exercise sound and independent judgment
  • Knowledge and skill in using job-appropriate technology and software applications

Working Conditions

This role requires sitting for extended periods and frequent standing or walking. The ability to lift or carry objects weighing up to 20 pounds is necessary. Close visual acuity is required for extended use of computers and preparing and analyzing data and analytics.
