Position Overview:
The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Intensive Care Float Pool operates under general supervision and collaborates with a multidisciplinary healthcare team. Utilizing clinical judgment, the RN diagnoses and addresses human responses to actual or potential health issues. This role encompasses the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care for patients, while also coordinating nursing activities with other healthcare professionals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assessment: Conducts thorough multi-system evaluations, which include biophysical, psychosocial, environmental, self-care, educational, and discharge planning needs. Identifies abnormalities in routine laboratory diagnostic tests and performs comprehensive discharge assessments.
- Planning: Develops personalized nursing care plans that are responsive to the developmental needs of patients. Coordinates care activities and discharge planning with various hospital departments and community organizations. Creates and documents patient education plans, ensuring appropriate delegation of care activities based on patient conditions and the capabilities of other healthcare providers.
- Implementation: Executes appropriate measures in accordance with established protocols for managing medical and surgical patients. Follows the physician's care plan accurately and documents all care in the electronic medical record (EMR) in compliance with policies and procedures. Engages in a multidisciplinary approach when necessary and performs all required procedures correctly, including medication administration and emergency interventions.
- Evaluation: Assesses the effectiveness of assessment methods, care plans, and patient responses to treatments. Actively participates in quality assurance initiatives within the unit.
Basic Qualifications:
Experience:
- At least nine (9) months of RN experience.
- A minimum of three (3) years of recent critical care experience in an ICU setting with demonstrated proficiency.
Education:
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
Licensure and Certifications:
- Registered Nurse License (in the state where care is provided) required upon hire.
- NIH Stroke Scale Certificate to be obtained within three months of hire.
- Basic Life Support certification required upon hire.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification preferred.
Additional Requirements:
- Proficient computer keyboarding skills.
- Competency in sedation techniques.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience in a healthcare setting.
- Bachelor's degree in nursing or a related field.
- Five (5) years of recent ICU nursing experience is preferred.
- CCRN certification is preferred.
- PALS certification is preferred.
