Position Overview:


In a collaborative environment and under general oversight, the Registered Nurse (RN) utilizes clinical expertise to assess and address health-related responses in patients facing actual or potential medical issues.

The RN is accountable for evaluating, planning, directing, and delivering nursing care to patients while coordinating care activities with other healthcare professionals.


Key Responsibilities:

Assessment:
standard of performance: Conducts thorough multi-system evaluations, encompassing biophysical, psychosocial, environmental, self-care, educational needs, and discharge planning. Recognizes abnormalities in routine laboratory diagnostic results. Continuously reassesses patients throughout their hospital stay. Completes comprehensive discharge evaluations.

Planning:
standard of performance: Formulates a personalized nursing care plan that considers the developmental requirements of the patient. Collaborates with various hospital and clinic departments and community organizations for patient care and discharge planning. Develops and documents patient education strategies. Appropriately delegates care tasks based on the patient's condition and the capabilities of other healthcare providers. Prioritizes patient care effectively. Assesses the acuity level of assigned patients.

Implementation:
standard of performance: Initiates suitable actions based on established protocols for managing medical and/or surgical patients. Provides nursing care in accordance with the protocols for each patient. Accurately executes the physician's care plan. Maintains precise documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR). Adheres to policies and procedures in documenting care. Employs a multidisciplinary approach when necessary. Performs all required procedures competently. Utilizes available educational resources to address patient teaching needs. Accurately calculates and administers medications. Takes appropriate actions in emergency situations.

Evaluation:
standard of performance: Assesses the effectiveness of evaluation methods, care plans, and patient responses to treatment. Engages in unit quality assurance initiatives.

Basic Qualifications:
Experience

Minimum of nine (9) months of RN experience.

One (1) year of current Emergency Department experience or successful completion of the Kaiser Permanente New Graduate Internship Program in the Emergency Department.

Education

Graduate of an accredited nursing program.

License, Certification, Registration

Completion of the Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course within six months of hire OR Pediatric Advanced Life Support within six months of hire.

Registered Nurse License (in the state where care is provided).

NIH Stroke Scale Certificate within three months of hire.

Basic Life Support certification.

Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification.

Additional Requirements:
Proficient computer keyboarding skills.

Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course completion.

Preferred Qualifications:
Prior healthcare experience.

Bachelor's degree in nursing or a related field.

Certification in Emergency Nursing (CEN) preferred.

Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) preferred.

Demonstrated ability to recognize and interpret cardiac dysrhythmias preferred.

A commitment to functioning within the nursing process preferred.

A commitment to adhering to professional and personnel standards as defined.

Effective communication and interpersonal relationship skills preferred.
