Bus Fleet Operator

Qualifications Required:
Applicants must possess a high school diploma or GED along with two years of relevant experience, or an equivalent mix of training and experience. Candidates should be at least 18 years of age. Familiarity with school buses or heavy vehicles is advantageous but not mandatory. Strong communication skills are essential for effective interaction with drivers, dispatchers, and technicians.

It is necessary to hold or acquire a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class B with air brake endorsement, as well as P and S endorsements within six months of employment.

A valid driver's license and a clean driving record are prerequisites.

According to the Virginia DMV point system, the driving record must not indicate six or more demerit points within the last twenty-four months, nor any major violations resulting in six demerit points within the last thirty-six months.

Out-of-state driving records must be obtained by the applicant and presented during the interview. These records should reflect a minimum of three years of driving history and be dated within thirty days of the interview. Pre-employment drug screening, FBI criminal background checks, and verification of education or degrees are mandatory.

Responsibilities:
This role operates under the direct oversight of the Automotive Maintenance Supervisor. Duties encompass the transportation of buses to and from service providers for warranty repairs or maintenance, as well as to breakdown locations as required. Note that this position does not involve the transportation of students or staff. Additional tasks may be assigned as necessary.

This role is part of an established Career Development Plan (CDP), providing opportunities for career advancement and salary enhancements, contingent upon funding availability, performance, qualifications, and experience.


Work Schedule:
25 hours per week; Monday to Friday; 5-hour shifts scheduled between 5:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
