Position Summary
The Antepartum Care Unit at UNC Health Care is in search of a Patient Care Technician I. This role encompasses responsibilities as both a Nursing Assistant I and a Health Unit Coordinator (Clerical).
Incentive Program: This position is eligible for our Nursing Support Incentive Program, which offers $5,000 distributed over a three-year commitment.
The Antepartum Care Unit is a specialized 13-bed inpatient facility dedicated to managing high-risk antepartum patients facing various pregnancy complications, including but not limited to multiples, preterm labor, and hypertension. The unit also accommodates antepartum and postpartum patients requiring magnesium infusions, as well as overflow cases from postpartum couplets and GYN patients. Responsibilities include external fetal monitoring and managing transfusions and antibiotic therapies.
Work Schedule: This is a full-time position requiring 36 hours per week, with 12-hour rotating shifts (7am-7:30pm and 7pm-7:30am) and a rotation for weekends and holidays. The current need is for night shifts. An extensive benefits package is included, with PTO hours accrued based on hours worked. Attendance at a weeklong hospital orientation is mandatory, offered bi-weekly.
Orientation Schedule: Monday and Tuesday - In-person from 8am to 4pm; Wednesday - 8am to 10am Virtual and in-person from 1pm to 5pm; Thursday and Friday - Virtual.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Assist healthcare providers during routine examinations and procedures, including the procurement of necessary equipment and supplies.
2. Review patient care documentation critically, noting significant changes in patient conditions and reporting them immediately to a registered nurse or physician.
3. Perform various clerical tasks, such as organizing and prioritizing workload, greeting visitors, and maintaining medical records. Conduct routine quality assurance audits and inventory checks.
4. Provide clinical support, including maintaining the work area, transporting patients and supplies, and assisting in the orientation of new staff.
5. Deliver direct personal care to patients, including bathing, dressing, and measuring vital signs. Responsibilities may also include specimen collection and basic wound care.
6. Reinforce patient education provided by registered nurses or physicians and document patient understanding of instructions.
Qualifications:
Education: High School Diploma or GED required.
Licensure/Certification: Must be listed as a Nursing Assistant I by the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services and possess Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Experience: A minimum of six months of clerical or customer service experience is required.
Skills: Proficiency in verbal and written English is essential, along with the ability to develop computer skills if necessary.
