Job Summary:

UNC Health Care is seeking a skilled Nursing Assistant I to join our team in the Surgical Trauma Critical Care Unit. As a Nursing Assistant I, you will provide routine direct and indirect patient care in a hospital setting, working under the direct supervision of a registered nurse or physician.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist physicians and other healthcare providers with routine examinations and procedures, as well as procurement of equipment and supplies during emergency situations.
  • Observe, collect, and document patient information obtained while providing care and promptly report significant changes in the patient's condition to a registered nurse or physician.
  • Provide assistance to patients and their families during admission to the clinical area, orientation to the hospital experience, and discharge.
  • Provide direct personal care to patients as outlined in the plan of care for routine activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, feeding, and assisting with ambulation.
  • Provide indirect care to patients and assigned area, including cleaning the work area, changing linens, re-stocking supplies, cleaning/sterilizing instruments, transporting patients/supplies/specimens, and assisting in the orientation of new employees and students.

Requirements:

  • High School diploma or General Education Development (GED)
  • Listed as Nursing Assistant I with the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Prefer six (6) months of nursing assistant experience

Work Environment:

This is a 36 hours per week position, working 12 hour rotating shifts (7am-7:30pm and 7pm-7:30am), with weekend and holiday rotation. The Surgical Trauma Critical Care Unit is a fast-paced, Level 1 Trauma certified, Beacon Gold Award for Excellence designated, 40-bed unit specializing in the care of critically injured trauma and surgical patients.
