Position Overview: Counseling Supervisor (COH)
Role Summary
Under general supervision, the Counseling Supervisor is responsible for overseeing, organizing, and participating in the operations of the Youth and Family Services Bureau (YFSB). This includes supervising counseling personnel and interns, ensuring compliance with contract requirements, coordinating counseling initiatives with law enforcement, and providing direct counseling services as necessary.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise counseling staff and interns while adhering to ethical and legal standards in counseling practices.
- Manage staff caseloads and coordinate schedules effectively.
- Propose operational enhancements and prepare reports on activities and performance metrics.
- Engage in meetings related to community mental health and collaborate with various social service and mental health organizations.
- Work closely with the Youth and Family Services Bureau Sergeant to deliver integrated service models.
- Assist in setting and achieving Bureau goals and objectives, including evaluating services and implementing policies.
- Participate in budget planning and monitor expenditures.
- Oversee staff performance, including training, evaluations, and disciplinary actions.
- Provide clinical guidance to counselors, interns, and law enforcement personnel.
- Develop training programs for departmental staff on mental health topics.
Qualifications
Knowledge and Skills Required
- Understanding of human development theories, particularly in child development.
- Familiarity with social aspects of mental health, including family dynamics and behavioral indicators.
- Expertise in crisis intervention techniques and culturally responsive counseling methods.
- Knowledge of the juvenile justice system, public education, and social services.
- Awareness of community resources in mental health and human services.
- Proficiency in relevant laws and regulations governing mental health services.
Abilities
- Deliver effective clinical supervision and maintain high standards of practice.
- Conduct crisis interventions and provide counseling services.
- Assess training needs and coordinate staff development initiatives.
- Foster a collaborative and positive work environment.
- Build strong relationships with community partners and stakeholders.
Experience and Education
Combination of education and experience equivalent to a Master's Degree in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, or a related field, along with four years of counseling experience, including one year in a supervisory role. A valid license in Marriage, Family and Child Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy, Licensed Clinical Social Work, or Clinical Psychology is required.
