Senior Medical Support Specialist

Position Overview:
The Advanced Medical Support Assistant plays a crucial role within the Veterans Affairs, Veterans Health Administration, specifically in the Health Administration Service (HAS). This position is essential for managing the intake and organization of health and administrative data.
Key Responsibilities:
The incumbent will engage with various computer applications and systems, including VISA, VSE, CPRS, and VSSC, to fulfill the following duties:
- Appointment Management: Responsible for scheduling, rescheduling, and canceling patient appointments and consults, including imaging studies. This includes daily updates on no-show information and preparing for clinic visits by generating patient appointment lists.
- Data Verification: Ensure the accuracy of patient demographics and insurance details.
- Communication: Develop and maintain effective communication with patients, interdisciplinary teams, and other agencies to facilitate seamless operations.
- Pre-Appointment Monitoring: Oversee pre-appointment requirements to ensure patient readiness for visits or procedures.
- Office Automation: Perform standard office tasks such as faxing, scanning, and managing documentation for medical records requests.
- Customer Support: Provide responsive telephone support for scheduling inquiries and general questions.
Work Schedule:
Typical hours include 7:30 am to 4:00 pm, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, or 8:30 am to 5:00 pm.
Conditions of Employment:
Applicants must be U.S. citizens and may be subject to a background investigation. Proficiency in English, both written and spoken, is required. Participation in vaccination programs for seasonal influenza and COVID-19 is mandatory for all healthcare personnel.
Qualifications:
To qualify, candidates must possess:
- Six months of experience in clerical, office, customer service, or administrative roles, or
- One year of education beyond high school, or
- A combination of experience and education that meets the requirements.

- Strong collaboration and communication skills with a diverse range of medical professionals.
- Ability to prioritize and organize tasks effectively to meet deadlines.
- Proficiency in medical terminology and understanding of healthcare processes.
This position requires some physical activity, including walking, standing, and lifting up to 30 lbs.
