Position Overview:

The selected candidate will engage in computational investigations focusing on nuclear and advanced energy materials. This role involves the development, training, and evaluation of machine learning models aimed at simulating materials using techniques such as dense neural networks, Gaussian processes, and graph convolutional networks.

Key Areas of Research:
The materials under investigation include molten salts, which serve as heat transfer fluids in innovative fission and fusion reactors, as well as doped ceramic materials intended for high-temperature electric-thermal energy storage.

Responsibilities:
The appointee will assist their supervisor in the preparation of scholarly articles and grant proposals. The initial contract will be for one year, with the potential for extension based on performance and funding availability.

Essential Qualifications:

  • PhD in Nuclear Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Computer Science, Chemistry, Physics, or a related discipline.

Required Skills:

  • Expertise in molecular dynamics simulations, electronic structure methods (DFT), thermodynamic modeling, phase diagram calculations, machine learning, and high-performance computing.

Additional Skills:

  • Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively within a team setting.
  • Capability to mentor and motivate students with limited research experience.
  • Familiarity with nuclear materials and the chemistry of molten salts/ionic liquids.
