Job Overview

Position Summary: The Mechanical Equipment Technician is responsible for the upkeep and repair of various mechanical tools and machinery, including but not limited to power saws, hand mowers, power mowers, weed trimmers, snow removal equipment, and playground apparatus. This role involves performing semi-skilled tasks that require physical labor to maintain public facilities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct maintenance and repairs on mechanical equipment, ensuring optimal functionality.
  • Engage in manual labor tasks such as digging, shoveling, and leveling ground.
  • Oversee the maintenance of recreational spaces, including athletic fields and parks.
  • Utilize hand and power tools for tasks such as planting, trimming, and mowing.
  • Perform repairs on fences, swings, slides, and other playground structures.
  • Execute painting and general maintenance duties as required.
  • Assist in the transportation of materials and supplies, including loading and unloading.
  • Maintain cleanliness of public areas by removing debris and litter.
  • Manage snow and ice removal using appropriate equipment.
Qualifications:

Essential Skills:

  • Ability to comprehend and follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Proficient in the use of tools relevant to the trade.
  • Physically fit and capable of performing demanding tasks.
  • Possession of a valid Massachusetts Class D Driver's License with a clean driving record.

Work Schedule: Full-Time, Monday to Friday

Compensation: $903.40 weekly, plus benefits

Union Affiliation: SMEA B

Employment Status: Non-Exempt
