Job Summary

The University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics is seeking a highly skilled Pharmacy Technician to join our team. As a Pharmacy Technician, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe and efficient dispensing of medications to our patients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide exceptional patient service, communicating effectively with patients, families, and healthcare teams.
  • Screen prescriptions for completeness and accuracy, and conduct interviews with patients to collect and record patient profile information.
  • Utilize the ScriptPro Robot to fill cells/cassettes, clean cells/cassettes, map brand changes, and return unwanted prescriptions to cells.
  • Fill and refill prescriptions, accurately labeling and packaging medications.
  • Accurately compound medications for prescriptions, clinic doses, and inpatients.
  • Answer the dedicated prescription refill telephone line, generating prescription refill labels and verifying addresses for mailed prescriptions.
  • Prepare prescriptions for mailing and shipping, performing inventory maintenance activities and generating records related to prescription dispensing.
  • Perform activities involving narcotics and controlled substances, including conducting weekly and monthly inventories, ordering replacement supplies, and auditing records.
  • Conduct assigned audits in patient care clinic areas, maintaining area orderliness and cleanliness.
  • Assist in on-the-job training of new technicians and coordinate technical activities with other team members.
Requirements
  • Registered with the Pharmacy Board at the time of hire.
  • National certification through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or the National Healthcareer Association (NHA).
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience in the natural sciences or satisfactory completion of an accredited pharmacy technician training program.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ability to perform ratio/proportion equations.
  • Experience with inventory maintenance activities.
  • Experience working in a team environment.
  • Experience working in a detail-oriented work environment.
  • Knowledge of Windows-based computer programs.
  • Experience working in a healthcare environment with one-on-one patient interaction.
