Aquatic Safety Officer - Maplewood

Additional Compensation: Extra $2.00 per hour for early morning shifts: 5am-8am

Position Type: Part-Time
Under the supervision of the Aquatics Staff Associate, the Aquatic Safety Officer is responsible for enforcing the rules and regulations of the pool to maintain a safe environment for all patrons. This role is crucial in promoting the mission, vision, and core values of the YMCA of Greater Rochester.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure the safety of all individuals at the YMCA, both in and around the aquatic facilities.
- Enforce policies regarding hygiene, food and beverage consumption, and conduct.
- Assist in keeping the facilities clean and sanitary.
- Maintain accurate records as mandated by health regulations.
- Familiarize oneself with other available facilities and programs.
- Learn and review all emergency protocols.
- Attend all required staff meetings and training sessions.
- Arrive 15 minutes prior to scheduled shifts in the appropriate uniform.
- Secure a substitute lifeguard when unable to work and inform the supervisor of any changes.
- Maintain all necessary certifications as required by the YMCA of Greater Rochester.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications:
- Must be at least 15 years of age.
- Must possess current YMCA Lifeguarding or Red Cross Lifeguarding certification and obtain YMCA Lifeguarding certification within 60 days of hire.
- Must have CPR for the Professional Rescuer Certification, AED, and Oxygen Administration certification.
- Must hold Basic First Aid certification.
- It is expected that the Aquatic Safety Officer will demonstrate maturity, responsibility, positive values, and a genuine interest in working with individuals.
- Must exhibit lifeguard skills in alignment with YMCA of Greater Rochester standards.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand for the duration of the shift.
- Ability to bend and stoop occasionally.
- Ability to lift at least 15 pounds occasionally.
- Ability to spend extended periods in the pool.
