Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated Field Chemist Specialist to join our team at Clean Harbors. This role involves working as a hazardous waste technician, primarily supporting our onsite programs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct waste collection and management activities at various client locations.
  • Manage a territory that includes multiple regions, ensuring compliance and efficiency.
  • Respond to emergency situations, which may occasionally require travel outside the state.
  • Work schedules are flexible and depend on client requirements, with typical hours ranging from early morning to afternoon.
  • Perform inspections, prepare shipments, and ensure proper labeling and packaging of hazardous materials on-site.

Essential Duties

• Execute waste pickups at laboratories as necessary.
• Generate packing lists, labels, and manifests using computer systems.
• Identify unknown laboratory chemicals during inspections.
• Conduct thorough inspections of storage areas to maintain compliance with safety regulations.
• Monitor for leaks or spills in storage facilities.
• Ensure proper labeling of storage drums according to regulations.
• Collect and package waste materials efficiently for disposal.
• Profile new waste streams and conduct necessary analytical testing.
• Maintain accurate tracking documentation for waste management.
• Utilize waste management software to streamline operations.
• Assign appropriate waste codes for disposal materials.

Qualifications

Education: Minimum of 2 years of college or specialized training in Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science, or a related field.
Experience: 3 to 5 years in a relevant role.
Certifications: Required certifications include 40 Hour OSHA Training, Forklift Training, Reactive Materials certification, and DOT Training.
Licenses: Valid driver's license with a clean driving record is essential.

Skills and Competencies

• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Knowledge of RCRA regulations and hazardous materials management.
• Proficiency in Windows-based applications and waste management software.

Physical Requirements

The role requires the ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting and carrying materials, standing for extended periods, and conducting inspections in various environments. Reasonable accommodations will be made for individuals with disabilities to perform essential job functions.
